My mum is the best to my family and me, mum didn't have the best of marriages but always made my brother, sister and me her priority. In her words they stayed together for the sake of the children in those days, divorce was still quite rare then. For many years mum thought we never knew that dad and her marriage was not so good and it was only about 7 years ago that we all confessed to her that we had known from an early age. She was a little shocked as she always assumed that we knew nothing and if anything this has made us respect her more as she always made our lives happy.

She is a strong woman and has always been there whenever we have needed her and she continues to be there for all her family.

Two years ago in March mum came to live with my husband (Neil) and myself as she had not been feeling well for sometime and we constantly worried about her living on her own as my dad had passed away almost 8 years ago now. I was a little worried how things would be as 2 women and 1 kitchen really don't go so they say. Well i didn't worry for long as we all get on extremely well and have had some great times.

In January 2009 I thought the great times had come to an end as mum was diagnosed with Oesophagus Cancer, it is true what they say when people hear the C word everything seems to stop. For a few weeks things seemed surreal, trips to several hospitals, scans and lots of tests followed. Unfortunately mum's Cancer is not operable, she had a course of radium and now has a feeding tube to assist her eating. We have had several rough patches since the time she was diagnosed but she continues to be strong and continues to fight this. My mum is 78 years young and makes me very proud to be her daughter, yes times can be tough but we always smile and take each day as it comes. My son (David) is getting married in August and mum wants us to go shopping for her outfit in the next couple of weeks as she says she will not miss the wedding for anything. You know what I believe she will attend the wedding and I will be fighting alongside to ensure she is with us for many years to come. This is why my mum is special to me.

Dear Simon,
Please could you consider my mum for the wonderful flowers. I know we all think our mums are the best, but my mum really is a special lady, who does so much for others, yet has had a tough year.

My mum lives in a small block of flats and the other residents are all pensioners. My mum helps all of the other residents with lots of things, cleaning windows, getting shopping when she goes out, accompanying residents to the Doctors, one resident had to be admitted to hospital and my mum made sure she was comfortable and bought her clothes and toiletries and visited the hospital everyday. She even made a casserole for the neighbours return.

My mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer the day before her 60th birthday on 3rd March last year. Thankfully they caught it as DCIS and she only needed a small operation, and was told she was clear.

Last month during a routine mammogram they a seperate instance of cancer in her other breast, and she has her operation on 10th March, followed by gruelling treatment. I will be nursing my mum again, as my brother lives in Worcester and as I am single it is easier for me. I am devastated but putting on a brave face and pray she gets well soon.

My mum adores flowers and to get this lovely surprise would be so appreciated, it would surely bring a little sunshine into her life.

Thanks for reading and I hope you deem her worthy. Best wishes Lee Butler

Mothers Day

My Mother's Day Poem for my Mother by Trollings

Who was there to kiss me good night
And to read me a story
Then tuck me in tight
Who was there when i fell down
And scraped my knee
Then made me smile when i frown
Who was there when i went to school
Bought my uniform
And made me look cool
Who was there when boys came on the scene gave me advice and made me dream
Who gave me advice
When i had children of my own
And made me feel never alone
Your the one who made me feel better
Who kissed my brow
Tucked me in at night
Who helped me to read and write
Who helped me know right from wrong
Who helped me grow from week to strong
You are there for me
Without your love in my life
It's the same as been stabbed with a knife.

Dear Simon,
I only wish I was able to tell you how I'd love my Mum to be able to receive your bouquet of flowers on Mothers Day but she's been dead now for over 50 years and believe it or not but I still miss her very much. I will be 89 in May but enjoy my Mirror Bingo every day and thank you for making my life a great deal happier. Sincerely yours, Dratit
